Tech Depot from the Office Depot

Funny Gadgets

Tech Depot Logo If you're wanting a single source for all your technology products, this might be a good place to look (www.techdepot.com). It offers all the hardware you're likely to need, including notebooks, workstations, tablet PCs and bare bone systems plus all the components if you want to build your own PC.

There's also a range of software, networking equipment, storage products, accessories and a number of services that include installation, leasing and warranty packages. Each category has featured products and you can also click a tab to browse through the full inventory or process a product finder to run a search. You can compare products to check the features or run an advanced search across the whole range.

Best sellers are featured and a number of clearance items, product rebates and deals are always available. Sign up for email notification of the latest deals as they happen. You can also apply for a credit card to finance all your purchases.

Under the Recycling Services heading, you can access a number of energy efficient and refurbished products (all accompanied with the obligatory green grass imagery!). All help to reduce costs and the refurbished products are fully tested, have any necessary repairs carried out and are certified by technicians before being repackaged and sold. There are also Energy Star devices, printers with duplex features to reduce paper use and power strips to cut down on electricity usage.

There are separate sections for home users, business and public sector customers, with each offering products and services that apply to the particular sector. If you are a business or public sector customer, for example, you'll be looked after by a dedicated account management team. There are, in fact, around 100,000 business, government and education customers, with the company being a preferred supplier for many educational establishments. This means that you may be able to access its full range of products from your school's or college's purchasing site, get the benefit of a discounted pricing agreement and could have access to an account management team.

Based in Turnbull, Connecticut, Tech Depot is a subsidiary of Office Depot, the world's largest supplier of office products. A link is provided to the parent company's site so you can get all your technology and office products at almost the same time.

All products ordered from the site have free shipping although you can pay a fee and get express delivery if you wish. If not, orders are normally delivered within two business days and you can track the status of your order from the website. You can also check your purchase history and orders to see what you've bought previously.

The company has been affected by the decision of parent Office Depot to reduce the number of consumer electronic products that it sells in a bid to improve profitability. This will be replaced by an increased focus on services, which will include the IT support program that is available here. One has to ask, though, why this site and service is separate from the main site and product range.
